My favorite thing about ringback tones is probably not something that many people think of, but the majority of the ringback clips that I put on my cellphone are not music, but instead they are just plain audio clips. Well, not just any old clips - the ringback tones that I look for mostly fun clips that will make any body that calls me smile or even laugh out loud.

The audio clips that I look for are old style comedy clips. Even though these haven't been in circulation for many many years, and have long ago exited the tv comedy show rotation, I think they are fun to find and put on my phone as my ringback tones. Since a lot of people that call me will be hearing these for the first time, it's actually seems like I have the coolest ringback tone around.

More often though, you will hear just a music clip when you call someone and they have installed a ringback. Although these are a little more common-place, since most people look for their newest favorite song, they can still be fun. If you are into the latest charts releases, then you'll have no shortage of music to choose from, since the wireless carriers make sure to have the most popular current music available, since this is where the majority of people select their tones from.

Even if you are a die-hard fan of a less popular music style - for example I know some people who just won't consider listening to anything but jazz, then you won't have any problem finding ringback tones that fit into your musical tastes. Since you depend on your wireless carrier to create a selection of downloadable ringback tones, there might be a limited selection if your style of music is really obscure, but most providers carry at least some tones from just about any genre you can think of.

Setting up and configuring the ringback tones for your cellphone is not a difficult process. You have two options - either use the phone interface and use the number pad to make your selections. Or you can go to the web and browse, listen to, order and configure the schedules you want for your ringback tones to play. Notice that I did say 'order' your selections, since there currently isn't any way to upload your own ringbacks, you are limited to the cell carrier's selection and price list. Even with that, I am certainly going to continue to use ringback tones on my cell, because the cost is pretty minimal, and I really enjoy the added personality it gives my cellphone. At the very least, it's a conversation starter!
